Top 3 Reasons Millennials Don’t Use LinkedIn

It is generally accepted that LinkedIn is a professional network, while Facebook, Instagram, etc. appeal more to younger users. Here are the top 3 reasons why millennials and college students in particular aren't using LinkedIn:


  1. No one to connect with

Linkedin was founded on the idea that “relationships matter,” a point that no professional would argue. But most younger people and college students haven’t yet built professional relationships.

The meat of a LinkedIn profile is essentially a resume - a person’s work history and professional experience. Younger people and students generally have little if any professional experience to showcase.

Last but not least: The newsfeed on LinkedIn is full of great professional insights and articles geared toward LinkedIn’s core, older demographic.

All in all, it makes sense that only 13% of Millennials are using LinkedIn.

 

While LinkedIn hasn't officially caught on with students, undergrads and recent grads have been turning to a solution designed for them: E-portfolio platforms are being implemented in partnership with Universities to showcase class and extra-curricular projects that demonstrate students skills in ways that a resume or LinkedIn profile cannot.
