Oregon Tech Selects Portfolium for Pathways & Assessment Initiatives

Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech) has selected Portfolium’s course-level and program assessment to support the university’s Essential Studies Student Learning Pathways initiative and ePortfolios campus-wide for 5,000+ students and faculty.

 

"We chose Portfolium because our faculty found LiveText frustrating and we needed an easy-to-use and flexible assessment tool that also provided benefit to students by giving them the opportunity to showcase their work into an ePortfolio," said Seth Anthony, Interim Director, Office of Academic Excellence at Oregon Institute of Technology. "Our migration and implementation of Portfolium was easy. The student-centered technology will ultimately help our faculty better see how students are performing and help students connect what they are learning and doing in the classroom with career opportunities."

Portfolium’s assessment software and ePortfolios will allow faculty to validate students’ real-world skills demonstrated in curricular and co-curricular learning environments, while simultaneously connecting those artifacts to Essential Studies program learning outcomes. By populating digital portfolios with robust evidence of experiential learning, students will be able to creatively develop their own unified learning profile, which can be showcased to faculty, peers, and alumni. Those learning experiences and competencies will also be directly searchable by employers via Portfolium’s unique TalentMatch platform.

 

The Essential Studies Student Learning Pathways program will support all Oregon Tech graduates in developing the habits of mind and behaviors of professionals and lifelong learners. After completion of the each pathway, Oregon Tech students will be able to:

  • communicate effectively orally and in writing;

  • engage in a process of inquiry and analysis;

  • make and defend reasonable ethical judgments;

  • collaborate effectively in teams or groups;

  • demonstrate quantitative literacy;

  • explore diverse perspectives.
