Lamar University Selects Portfolium For Badging, Assessment, and ePortfolios

Lamar University has chosen Portfolium's Student Success Network to provide 10,000+ students with the ability to showcase and reflect on their curricular and co-curricular learning experiences in a lifelong ePortfolio, which can be leveraged by students to land internship and employment opportunities

In addition to providing Lamar University students with access to the Student Success Network, they plan to use Portfolium Assessment as a way to perform summative evaluation of a degree program and launch their first digital badging and pathway program. Portfolium’s assessment software and ePortfolios will allow instructors to validate students’ real-world skills demonstrated in curricular and co-curricular learning environments, while simultaneously connecting those artifacts to general education learning outcomes. By populating digital portfolios with robust evidence of skills, students will be able to creatively represent their unified learning profile which can be showcased to faculty, peers, and alumni. Those artifacts and competencies will be also directly searchable by employers via Portfolium’s unique TalentMatch platform.

“We’re excited about the opportunities our current students will receive to build lifelong ePortfolios and demonstrate their knowledge and skills to prospective employers,” said Dr. Brenda Nichols, Vice Provost for Digital Learning at Lamar University, “As well as way to assess professionals in the acquisition of new knowledge and skills to continue their development. Significantly, this process will allow summative evaluation of a degree program.”

Lamar will roll out Portfolium's digital badging and learning pathway technology to a portion of the school's student body. Portfolium's BadgeLink technology will provide students with the ability to earn micro-credentials and digital badges for completed units, and automatically have them displayed within the students' unified learning profile. Digital badge issuance will be triggered directly by Portfolium's assessment software, ensuring that viewers of badges will have full transparency into the learning outcomes, rubrics, and evidence of student work.

“At Portfolium, our mission goal is to connect learning with opportunity, and the only way we can achieve that is by providing tangible value to students’ degrees. From the moment students transition into Lamar University and out as alumni, we want to make sure every milestone is documented and translated as an authentic learning experience,” said Troy Markowitz, Vice President of Academic Partnerships.
